Tips

  • Ceiling pfron is first mentioned in 1075 in a document of Heinrich IV, the so-called Hirsauer Form. The church was originally built as a private church for the Counts of Calw, who donated their possessions to the Hirsau monastery in the document mentioned. During this time, the church may have been given the name Nicolai or Nikolauskirche. He is the saint of the Cluniac reform movement, whose German center was Hirsau.

Around 1500, the church was expanded into a real small fortress, a precautionary measure especially for troubled times.

A turning point occurs in 1818. The congregation receives permission to build a new church. The town had grown to 1000 souls, and the west wall of the church was dilapidated. But while previously the old church had always been rebuilt, it is now being demolished after 800 years. A new nave with high rows of windows is built and a gallery offers space. The tower remains, but the old chancel is walled up. The altar is on the east wall, the pulpit above it.
