From here you can see the monastery church of Ilbenstadt in the distance, which is also popularly known as the Wetterau Cathedral. The former abbey church of Maria, St. Peter and Paul of the Diocese of Mainz, consecrated in 1159, was built in a Romanesque basilica style. In 1803, as part of the Enlightenment, it became a parish church. In 1929, Pope Pius XI gave it the honorary title basilica minor, which only 1,478 churches worldwide bear today.
