"On a hill in Ilbenstadt rises a Romanesque basilica, which is also called "Cathedral of Wetterau". The church was donated in 1123 by St. Gottfried von Cappenberg as part of a monastery. In 1657 the monastery was elevated to the status of an abbey and the monastery complexes replaced by a new building in the Baroque style in the following decades. The basilica is richly decorated with Baroque figures of the apostles."
