The church was rebuilt in 1750/1751 after the previous church was destroyed by a lightning strike in 1748.
"Anno 1748, the 12th (?) July, between 7 and 8 o'clock in the evening, the previous church was almost completely ruined by horrific clap of thunder. God protect you". (Inscription above the church portal. I hope that I have reproduced it correctly, otherwise please correct it.)
