At the back of the Domain of the Millennial Oak in Lummen, Natuurpunt recently laid out a field with old crops, as well as a beautiful flower meadow that you can also see from the watchtower. Many flowers were still in bloom during our visit in November 2022. An information board explains how this initiative contributes to nature.

Under the shade of the Thousand-Year Oak, Natuurpunt, together with the municipality of Lummen, manages several fields to preserve biodiversity. As a result of modern techniques, little or no space remains for typical field plants such as cornflowers and poppies. Therefore, Natuurpunt pays extra attention to these species on these plots. Animals such as buntings and finches can thus find food again in winter and have a place to breed in summer.
