The two coves sit side by side on the edge of the Camel Estuary. At low tide the beaches are joined together but when the tide come in, they are quite seperate.

Harbour Cove, in the south is a wide expanse of sand and sand dunes. You can walk past Hawker's Cove and up to Gunn Point at low tide. The sand bank here is infamous for shipwrecking. Known as the Doom Bar, 600 ships have hit it since 1800.

Hawker's Cove, closer to the estuary mouth, is much smaller with rocky banks on either side. A picturesque row of Coastguard cottages flank the beach making it a much photographed location.
