The Monument to the Partisan is the work of the sculptor Marino Mazzacurati and the architect Guglielmo Lusignoli.

To finance the work, a national subscription was concluded between the citizens and the municipalities of the province. The location for the construction of the monument was determined from the beginning in the area in front of the Pilotta Palace (then Piazza Marconi), where a statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II once stood (destroyed on the night of July 5, 1946 at a cost of TNT). A competition was announced for the construction of the work and in July 1954 a jury composed of intellectuals, artists and administrators unanimously chose Mazzacurati and Lusignoli's project.

The monument was inaugurated on June 30, 1956 with a grand ceremony attended by the President of the Republic Giovanni Gronchi and other government authorities, municipal and provincial institutions, deployed armed forces, the banners of the municipalities decorated for the resistance and tens of thousands of people .

In 1966 the work won the national sculpture prize of the Accademia di San Luca. In 1961 it was the victim of an attack and the statue of the partisan on the ground, restored, was placed in the local cemetery of the Villetta, a copy was placed in its place.

Partisan on the plinth with his weapon at the ready, a fallen partisan lies at his feet.
