Recipients of the Gold Medal for Bravery, executed on May 24, 1944 in the Parma firing range.
Mascherpa (1893-1944) was a highly decorated officer in World War I. As a rear admiral, he defended himself against the Germans in the Aegean Sea at the head of his unit for two months in the autumn of 1943. He was then captured by the German troops, taken to Germany and finally handed over to the RSI together with Admiral Campioni (1878-1944). They were finally sentenced to death by a special court in Parma and finally executed.
