At first glance, this monument may be more reminiscent of a war memorial, such as those found everywhere in memory of the fallen soldiers of this town. The wreaths placed under the large relief panel in particular reinforce this impression, but it is very deceptive:
Because here there is actually a monument in honor of one of the greatest Italian musical geniuses:

(1813 to 1901). His operas in particular (for example, "Otello") are still performed worldwide and much praised masterpieces of that era, the Romantic period.
