The Alte Pinge is an impressive relic of historical mining in the Harz region and is a reminder of centuries of ore extraction in the area. A Pinge refers to a funnel-shaped depression in the terrain, created by near-surface mining or the collapse of old mine workings. Such evidence of mining still shapes the Harz landscape in many places today.
