The Petersturmchen Obermoschel, built around 1373, is the oldest building in the city and the only surviving building from the earlier city fortifications.
The "Peterstürmchen" is the only surviving tower of the old town fortifications in Obermoschel, the smallest town in the Palatinate. It was built around 1373 and increased by one floor in 1527. It is considered the oldest building in the city. The original city fortifications consisted of a city wall with a rampart and a moat in front of it. The Stadtgraben was fed with water by diverting the waters of the Sauerborn/Hinterbach, the Unkenbach and the Moschelbach and the Pentsch-Graben. The city's fortifications had three gates: the Obertor in the west on Friedrichstraße, the Untertor in the east on Wilhelmstraße and the Mühltor in the south on Luitpoldstraße. Of the two towers in the city wall, only the Peterstürmchen has been preserved, the second tower was located behind the so-called "Alten court". The turret got its name from the former medieval church “St. Peter". The room on the upper floor is used for readings, wine tasting and as a group room for lessons. The Peterstürmchen is located on the site next to the Catholic Church of the Assumption on Kirchenstrasse.
