Together with the Havenhaus, the gray donkey forms the oldest building ensemble in Vegesack.
The building was built in 1777, the number can be seen on the gable, as a stable and was used as such until the end of the 19th century. After the mail moved out of the Havenhaus and the horses from the stable, the leaseholder of the Havenhaus decided to convert the stable and lease it as a Havenschänke. The restaurant was named Grauer Esel in 1910.
At the entrance to the Vegesack Museum Harbor, the gray donkey now offers the opportunity to watch boats, have a chat and feel good.
Not to be forgotten is the great kitchen. In addition to the Bremen classics, fish is of course also on offer. My personal recommendation is the Knipp, fried nice and crispy with longer fried potatoes.
