British tourists in particular like to have their photo taken in front of the Pestana Churchill Bay Hotel, the small, almost picturesque hotel in the fishing port of Câmara de Lobos.

The reason is quite simple. The British Prime Minister spent his vacation on Madeira in early 1950. He was chauffeured here in a Rolls Royce - as an amateur painter, he was particularly fond of the bay of Câmara de Lobos.
