A very beautiful, lovingly maintained mill. There are a few tables and benches for resting.

History and restoration of the mill

The Sprengel windmill was built in 1877 on the Mühlenberg as a gallery mill by Hinrich Leverenz.

He had the mill body built up from solid bricks up to the rotating cap on the octagonal floor plan, plastered and cast iron windows installed. The ground material was not delivered via a passage on the ground floor, but was transported to the gallery using an elevator, which is still functional today.

Grain was mainly processed into flour and grist. Around 1900, the wind drive was supplemented by a benzene diesel engine, which was located in an extension next to the mill. The engine was also used for contract threshing. The mill had three grinding gears, the first of which was dismantled in 1950, the second around 1965, the third worked until 1972, but in recent years only with an electric drive. In 1963 the owners dismantled the wings and in 1972 the gallery.

The mill and farm belonged to the Leverenz family until 1978, when they sold the mill separately from the property for private use, which gradually fell into disrepair in the following period. As part of the efforts to preserve the listed mill, the municipality bought the building with the support of the Sprengel Mill Association and renovated it from the ground up in cooperation with the Mill Association and public donors between 1990 and 1998.

The mill practically sits beautifully on a hill.

An association has restored it with a lot of love and even more work.

The mill is open, and a beautiful exhibition on the upper floors is worth a visit.

Below there is a car park, a picnic area, and a playground for children.
