If the structure of the Central Beacons massif was said to be a great hand, with its five north east reaching ridges its digits, then Bryn is definitely the tip of its thumb. Rising to 1,840 feet (561 m), it is a conspicuous green dome above the villages of Llanfrynach, Pencelli and Talybont. On a clear day, the vista from the summit cairn towards the famous trio of Fan y Big, Cribyn and Pen y Fan is particularly fine, as are the views down onto the wide Usk Valley.

The Bryn is the stepping stone hill for the central range when you are coming up from Llanfrynach. It has grand views of the long footpath towards Waun Rydd and onwards towards Cribyn and Pen y Fan. The views down onto the Usk Valley are superb.

We walked this in the middle of August and did not see one other person all the way round. A lovely route to take to warm up at the beginning a holiday, having a good view of the bigger mountains without getting lost in the mist!
