In 1921 the parish acquired the former Kaiser-Wilhelm-Garten excursion restaurant with a large beer garden. Its ballroom served as an officers' mess for naval aviators during the First World War and then as a cinema. It was converted into a church, which was consecrated on July 3, 1921. Since there was no bell tower, a steel frame was built in the church garden in 1930, on which the bells still hang today.

The place has an exciting history: originally it was a tourist restaurant with lots of garden tables and a stage with a sound dome. It was also a spa facility. People came to Johannisthal to relax. In 1921 the site was bought by the Protestant church. After the war in 1945 it became a Russian officers' casino and after a few years it was taken over again by the Protestant church community, which is still at home here today.
