The so-called Cordesbrunnen in the Ohlsdorf cemetery is named after the architect Wilhelm Cordes (1840–1917), who was significantly involved in the planning and design of the cemetery as a park landscape. From 1877 he was a construction manager, later a cemetery manager and then a cemetery director. He was responsible for the design of the green spaces and most of the buildings. The fountain, which was originally just called the sandstone fountain, is located around 400 meters from the main entrance in the middle of the park landscape on a hill. Two curved stairs frame the pool made of reddish stone. The design is reserved despite the baroque decoration.
