Granarolo Rack Railway

Granarolo terminus of the rack railway. Excellent starting point for visiting the park of the walls.

Unfortunately the train was not in operation during my visit to Genoa. Maintenance measures were carried out. The footpath or the street next to the train is very easy to walk. You rarely see people or cars here.

The Rack Railway connects the Genoa Piazza Principe railway station with the Granarolo district, from whose vicinity some hiking paths originate towards the area of the forts. The timetables can be consulted on the AMT app and on the website amt.genova.it. In the News section it is also possible to check that the railway is operational; otherwise, it is replaced by the G1/ bus service which stops at the Granarolo Bianco station (alternatively you can use line 38 departing from Granarolo, at the crossroads between via B. Bianco and via Caduti Senza Croce). The railway is free for all citizens residing in one of the Municipalities of the Metropolitan City of Genoa; otherwise, the cost of the ticket is €2.00 and is valid for 110 minutes on the entire urban and provincial AMT network, from Levanto to Varazze; All other AMT tickets and passes are also valid except the 4-journey ticket.
