Tips

  • The old registry office in Schwerin is located at the Pfaffenteich in August-Bebel-Straße 29 in the Schelfstadt district. The construction was completed in 1894 according to the drafts of the Schwerin architect Gustav Hamann. Initially, the building was the seat of the Kuetemeyer Foundation.
The building, which was erected for the 50th anniversary of the foundation, initially stood on its own on the Pfaffenteich and was surrounded by several gardens. It is considered a masterpiece by the architect Gustav Hamann from Hagenow. Designed in the Johann Albrecht style, forms from the Mecklenburg Renaissance adorn the façade.
In 1941, the National Socialists dissolved the foundation. Her fortune passed to the city of Schwerin. On June 8, 1942, following a decision by the city council, the registry office moved into the house of the Kuetemeyer-Schencke-Steinicke Foundation – from 1939 to 1950 August-Bebel-Strasse was still called Krügerstrasse. Up until 2008, numerous people from Schwerin married here.
In 2010, the city of Schwerin sold the building after it had been vacant for a long time. The new owner had the building extensively renovated between 2010 and summer 2015. The terracottas in particular presented him with a challenge. They had to be restored by hand.
Today, the former registry office houses an Ayurveda academy, also known as the Ayurveda Campus, an Ayurveda practice and a yoga institute called the Yoga Campus.

  • The beautiful building was built in 1894 according to the designs of the Schwerin architect Gustav Hamann. Initially, the building was the seat of the Kuetemeyer Foundation, which lent small amounts of money to the needy in the city without interest, and is now home to an Ayurveda practice and a yoga institute.
