This chapel of the Cross was built in 1632.
This pilgrimage chapel was certainly connected to the OLV Hemelvaart church in the village center from the middle of the 18th century by the Way of the Cross with 14 stations.

One cross is kept in the church of Eksaarde, the other in the Cross Chapel. The two crosses are symbolically connected by a Stations of the Cross with 14 state chapels.
