An ice grotto has been operated in the expiring tongue of the Rhone Glacier for 180 years in order to gain a glimpse into the interior of the "eternal" glacier ice. Crystal-clear ice walls, which condense in the depths to a bright light blue, contain water bubbles and offer the eye a special magic, can be observed along the 100 m that the grotto meanders into the glacier ice.
Unfortunately, the days of these ice grottos, which will disappear in the near future with the retreat of the glacier, are also numbered, protected from the outside with special foils from rapid thawing. One should therefore devote oneself to this drama with appropriate humility.
