Since you can hardly find any 'species-appropriate' alternatives on this section, you can also come by with an MTB. In the north-east of Lake Ratzeburg you could see many free-living Nandus. Unfortunately, lately they have become shy because they have become a nuisance to farmers and are no longer welcome here.

Today I could only see four in the middle of a large field - two of them were a little closer, so that I could photograph them with full telephoto out of focus. I didn't want to go any closer so as not to disturb them.

It's amazing that they could survive here in the wild for decades.
