The name of the witch tower is reminiscent of the rampant witch craze during the Thirty Years' War. Those suspected of witchcraft were imprisoned in his dungeon. It is documented that Katharina Märchtin, who was accused of witchcraft, was imprisoned from 1642 until her death in 1644 (Obernburger Blatter, Issue 1, 1999).

Those suspected of witchcraft were lowered in an elevator to their windowless, dark dungeon, where the tortures took place.
