In mining, a perforated stone is a boundary stone that marks the property boundary at a mine. Up to the end of the 19th century, perforated stones were set above ground according to a survey by Markscheider and indicated how far underground mining was allowed to go. They are among the last above-ground visible witnesses of former mining.
