Information:
It is one of the two source streams of the Weißeritz. Up to its middle reaches, the Red Weißeritz flows through a narrow and deeply incised valley, passing through extensive forested areas and the villages of Waldbärenburg, Kipsdorf, Schmiedeberg, Obercarsdorf, and Ulberndorf before reaching Dippoldiswalde. Downstream from Dippoldiswalde, the river is dammed at the Malter Reservoir, built between 1908 and 1913, for the purpose of supplying water for industrial purposes, generating electricity, and regulating low water levels.
