Barthels Hof was built as a trade fair center between 1747 and 1750. It is the last baroque thoroughfare in Leipzig that has survived.

The Barthels Hof is one of the most important sights in Leipzig. This typical exhibition courtyard was built in 1747-50 by Georg Werner for the Leipzig merchant Gottlieb Barthel as a bank and trading house. Trading and hoarding used to take place in the so-called "through courtyard", which offered protection from wind and weather, among other things. At that time, the basement rooms could not be used as storage in the swampy area, but the four-storey houses all had a very high roof and so the goods were pulled onto the storeroom floors using freight elevators. On the ground floor of the courtyard there were small shops and stables, on the upper floor there were magnificent ballrooms and in the rest of the house there were living quarters. In the 1990s, the Barthels Hof was painstakingly and painstakingly restored and refurbished by real estate entrepreneur Jürgen Schneider in accordance with monument protection regulations.

The particularly beautiful courtyards and passages behind the baroque facade invite you to shop and enjoy with numerous shops and a traditional restaurant.
