Parts of the original Romanesque church have been preserved. For the construction of the church Klosterwitze, also called friezes, were used. The church was radically changed in 1792. The old saddle roof tower was demolished and the church was widened to the west, reusing the material from the demolished tower. Instead of the old robust saddle roof tower, a roof turret was installed. The old tower is still depicted on an old print by Jacobus Stellingwerff (Wikipedia).
