The municipality of Oud-Turnhout started a ferry across the Dessel-Schoten canal in 2018 to create a connection between the nature reserves of Oud-Turnhout and Ravels,” says Bea Geudens of Toerisme Oud-Turnhout. “The ferry with a chain is pulled from one bank to the other by student workers and people from a social employment project. The initiative is a real tourist attraction. In the summer of 2023, almost 13,000 visitors used the special vessel in five months.”

The transfer season lasts from Sunday, May 5 to Sunday, September 29. In May, June and September you can take the ferry from Wednesday to Sunday from 11 am to 6 pm. In July and August the ferry sails seven days a week, each time from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
