The first mention of the parish church of St. Clement in Wieliczka is in the bull of Gregory IX. from 1229. The original church was probably made of wood.

The brick church was built with the citizens' donation between 1333 and 1370 and survived in this condition until 1782, when it was severely damaged by an earthquake. In 1786 the medieval building was demolished down to the foundations. Only part of the choir walls with buttresses have survived, the Morstin (Morsztyn) burial chapel from the 17th century, which was decorated with stucco in 1693 by the Italian artist Balthasar Fontana, and the free-standing bell tower next to the church, built by John III. by Sobieski after the pogrom against the Turks in the 17th century. The bell tower was designed by the Italian[3] architect Marcino Pellegrini (Translated from Wikipedia).
