The Vesdre (Weser) rises in the High Fens near the German border in the so-called Schennekul, then flows through Roetgen briefly on German territory to make its way further to Eupen. Shortly before the town, it is dammed in the Weser Dam. West of Eupen, the river reaches the French-speaking area and is henceforth called Vesdre.
