Above St. Véran runs the "Grand Canal", a ditch along the slope that collected water from various springs and distributed it to irrigate the meadows, similar to the Waalen in South Tyrol. It is no longer in operation and is usually only recognizable as a faint depression. But it is accompanied by a wonderful footpath that leads comfortably into the valley with a great view. Marmots keep us company and you occasionally encounter wandering donkeys with their companions.
