The Bergisel is a hill in the south of Innsbruck at the exit of the Sill in the Inn Valley.

1809 the four Bergiselschlachten under the supreme command of Andreas Hofer took place here.

At that time, the term Bergisel generally meant the terrain sloping down to the Inn Valley in the south of Innsbruck, approximately between Volders in the east and Völs in the west.

For the Olympic Games in 1964, the ski jump was built here, which was also used at the 1976 Olympic Games. Even today, there are jumping competitions here. On the right are the two bowls for the Olympic fires.

In September 2002, the new ski jump was opened. It comes from the internationally renowned architect Zaha Hadid and has become a new landmark of the city. At the top is a restaurant with a magnificent view of the city and the Nordkette.

In 1988, Pope John Paul II celebrated a mass here.
