By itself, there may not be much to see here for many unless you're a bit of a history freak like, well, me. Then what do you see? First the story. In 2013, remains of a Bandkeramic hamlet with four to six houses were found here. The ribbon ceramic culture is the archaeological culture with which the Neolithic began. Band ceramicists decorated their pottery (hence the name) and were farmers. In South Limburg there were quite a few, on higher fertile grounds - because they were farmers who kept cattle and grew grain. Before that there were hunters here. Of course Band ceramicists also hunted a bit. What do you think of those first farmers here? A recreated house plan as excavated here (dating from about 5000 BC), pits where they extracted the mud for their houses, an information board where you can read this here and much more (with a map), a fence of woven willow wicker a vegetable garden and a flint workshop. If you don't really care: it's also just a nice open place in the heights, called Hoogcanne by the archaeologists, with many paths and a bench. You will also see groups of a few trees, each with a fence and a construction between those trees. They have nothing to do with the Lined Ceramics, but are another highlight. They are the air shafts of the secret NATO base that lay below and the entrance of which you can see when you descend again. More about those shafts: komoot.com/nl-nl/highlight/4246332

Settlements of band ceramists have been found at this location.

Now there are trees, a new forest has been created here
