The bronze group of figures of the two pugilists on the Harburg Town Hall Square is a piece of classical sculpture with echoes of Art Nouveau. Eberhard Encke, at the time one of the most famous sculptors of the German Empire, presented this work in 1912 at the Berlin Art Exhibition, where it was awarded the "Golden Prussian State Medal for Art". A cast in Berlin-Wilmersdorf was melted down during World War II, a second cast, donated by HOBUM co-founder Arnold Mergell, was set up in Harburg an der Elbe in 1913.
