  • 1568 is the coal mining on Piesberg first mentioned. From 1832 on stones were mined on Piesberg. In order to be able to leave the mined coal and stones from the Piesberg, between 1856 and 1867 the mine yard and the connection railway to Eversburg to the state railway track are built. First, you do not procure your own locomotives, the wagons are either delivered by the state railway or it was ranked with horses. In 1889, the coal mines and quarry are sold by the city of Osnabrück to the Georgsmarienhütte steelworks, in order to secure part of the coal supply for the blast furnaces. In 1898, coal mining ceases because it has become uneconomic as a result of flooding and strikes, and henceforth only the stones broken at the Piesberg are sent from the colliery station. In 1902, in addition to the quarry, a concrete plant was built, in 1905 the mine station was extended, the connection to Eversburg is now two-pronged.Towards the end of the Second World War, a temporary connection of the mine yard to the line Osnabrück-Bremen had to go into operation as a bypass, in this way, the railway traffic could be maintained even in the destruction of the railway node Osnabrück.Even today, the pit yard is used for the handling of stones of all sizes by CEMEX Kies & Splitt GmbH.In 1988, our club found its home on the pit yard, over the years numerous tracks were repaired on the site and even the complete track 601 and 605 were rebuilt by the club. Likewise, a 110 m long platform will be built. In 1999, the mine yard was sold to Stadtwerke Osnabrück. In 2006, as part of the widening of the branch canal Osnabrück, a new, higher railway bridge was built, which also resulted in the reconstruction of the lower station area. In 2011, Stadtwerke Osnabrück began to build a 700 m long track to connect the coal mine station to the harbor railway. It is to be hoped that the museum (rail) operation and the historical flair as part of the cultural park and landscape park Piesberg will not be unduly affected.

  • This is where the steam locomotive friends of Osnabrück are at home. In summer there are also regular tours with the historic locomotives.
