"Sunday coffee in the chestnut garden - The history of the Piesberg community center When the city of Osnabrück was connected to the railway network in 1855, the Piesberg became an attractive destination for excursions. Osnabrück residents could now travel from Hasetor station to Eversburg station in just a few minutes to start their Sunday excursion to Piesberg from there. However, there was no social and meeting room for the miners and no place for excursionists to stop. Therefore, in 1870, the miner Sinnemann, who worked at Piesberg, wrote to the city council. In it, he asked for the construction of a so-called "restaurant building", which he would also like to run himself, in order to offer food and lodging, especially to the unmarried miners of the mine and business travelers. Sunday excursionists were also considered. Just one year later, the restaurant building on the edge of the mine site was completed and soon found great popularity among the entire population. The mining festival in particular gained in importance and attracted not only the miners, but the entire population in the Osnabrück region. In addition, a lively club life with several singing clubs developed."
