The Piccard Memorial, erected in 1989, commemorates Prof. Auguste Piccard's emergency landing on the Gurgler Ferner glacier on May 27, 1931.
The news of his rescue made headlines worldwide. A commemorative publication is available at the Obergurgl-Hochgurgl Information Office.
