This church was partly built on the ruins of the former abbey church of the Augustinian abbey, which was closed in the 18th century. It is the first modernist in Belgium, designed by the Bruges architect Huib Hoste. The church is built from a typical Flemish building material, brick. Another important building element was reinforced concrete. The new church was inaugurated in 1924. The church is striking because of its shape: the structure of the church refers to a Greek temple: portico, central and rear space, but also because of its quasi detached Westertoren, the wide nave and the round arches in the windows between the pillars. The interior was designed by Huib Hoste in collaboration with the Bruges artist Jules Fonteyne. The architecture used received a lot of criticism, but architect Bruggeman wrote the following about the church: "Zonnebeke has become a kind of mecca for the whole of intellectual Flanders, a source from which young people can refresh themselves, the table at which they communicate." The church tower is accessible as a lookout point and contains an exhibition about the ever-changing landscape. More information can be found in the booklet 'Walk 'Zonnebeke rises again, what after the Great War'.

The Church of Our Lady in Zonnebeke is a modernist church, designed by the Bruges architect Huib Hoste and built between 1921 and 1923. The church was partly built on the foundations of the former abbey church of the Augustinian abbey, which was closed in the 18th century. The building is best known for its use of reinforced concrete and cubist forms.

Inside the church you will find figurative stained glass windows, statues of the twelve apostles and a Calvary above the main altar, designed by sculptor Jules Fonteyne. The church tower is accessible as a lookout point and offers an exhibition about the changing landscape.
