Halfway through the 19th century (industrial changes) a railway connection between Ypres and Roeselare 'Spoorlijn 64' was built. There were stops in Zonnebeke and between Moorslede and Passchendaele. During the First World War it was used for supplying troops and equipment. For the Australians it was their 'Road to Passchendaele', it was the only road that was slightly accessible in the muddy landscape. After the war, the railway was the best and fastest way to reach the devastated region. The route of the railway was redeveloped as a green recreational axis between Ypres and Roeselare. On this bed you can relax in an eventful way on foot, on horseback or by bicycle. From the Memorial Museum Passchendaele, this route is the best walking connection to CWGC Tyne Cot Cemetery and Passchendaele.Source: toerismezonnebeke.be/zien/WO_I/WO_I_sites/The_Road_to_Passchendaele_3_km

The Strolijn in Passendale is a former railway line, known as Spoorlijn 64, which ran between Ypres and Roeselare. This line was used during the First World War for the transport of troops and equipment. After the war, the railway line was transformed into a recreational walking and cycling route, now known as the Stroroute. The name "Strolijn" comes from the fact that the line was often used for the transport of straw and beets. The route connects the Passchendaele Museum with Tyne Cot Cemetery and offers a quiet and green environment for walkers and cyclists.
