The cover in Stellingen, which is supported by the federal government, is to be 893 meters long and run from Kieler Straße in the south to the goods bypass in the north. A total of ten lanes (including the two-kilometre-long junction lane) will be widened here. The start of construction was planned for 2012 and should be completed after four years. Preparatory measures, such as the construction of the new bridge for the freight bypass, began in 2012. During the demolition and new construction of the Langenfeld Bridge in the southern part of the construction section, which began in May 2014, the removal of the roadway began in April 2015. In an open space planning realization competition for the design of the cover surfaces, the office "Weidinger Landscape Architects" from Berlin prevailed against the competition. The proposal envisages a multi-use park and allotment gardens. The four-year construction period began in March 2016. In 2019, both directions of travel were routed through the east tube and construction of the west tube began. On February 5, 2021, the second tube was opened to traffic. Thus the tunnel has been completely completed. The green spaces on the cover surface will be designed over the next 18 months.
