Mesenich was donated by Richeza, Queen of Poland, to the Benedictine monastery in Brauweiler near Cologne in 1050.

The place name is of Celtic origin.

Mesenich was characterized by viticulture, subsistence farming and especially shipbuilding: that's why an anchor can still be found on the coat of arms of Mesenich.

In 1050 to 1088 the parish church was built. Around 1200, the Romanesque church tower was renovated.

Mesenich used to consist of two different villages that have grown together. Födelich, the name for the other village, was completely replaced by Mesenich when the village officially became part of the municipality of Langsur after an administrative reform in 1977.
