Grinding Hut, Schluchtenweg, Sevelen
A razor-sharp look!
Until 1945, tools such as hatchets, cross axes, and hay knives from all over the community were sharpened once a week in the old grinding hut. The tools, previously forged in the village blacksmith's shop, were carried up by the boys in a cart and then sharpened to perfection by the blacksmith using a water-powered grindstone. A wooden waterwheel provided the necessary power via a connection. The blacksmith's dexterity and the steady rotation of the grindstone guaranteed the perfect grind. Today, only the remains of the walls remain as reminders of bygone times.
