One of the largest urban development projects in Germany is the PHOENIX See in Dortmund-Hörde. On the site of a former steelworks of ThyssenKrupp AG (formerly Hoesch), after around 160 years of steelworks history, a new local recreation area has been developed on a total of around 100 hectares, surrounded by attractive building plots. It was planned for five years until, after just another five years of construction, the official starting shot for the flooding of the lake was given on October 1, 2010.
