The building embodies bourgeois self-confidence and representation around 1900. At the shoe market, it is an attractive eye-catcher from different directions and dominates the square. Inside there are high-quality cast-iron columns with Corinthian capitals and richly designed stucco ceilings.

The former residential and commercial building of the merchant Hövel, from 1948 to 1989 a polyclinic, is a stately, three-storey brick building with eight axes towards Bäckerstraße with plaster divisions and polygonal bay window.
The building that dominates the square embodies bourgeois self-confidence and representation around 1900. Cast-iron columns with Corinthian capitals and richly designed stucco ceilings bear witness to this on the inside.
In 1993 it was reconstructed in such a way that it accommodated the original requirements and made it possible to combine living and working.
