A Perleberg post office was built in the 17th century at the intersection of several fixed postal routes. After the station was expanded several times, this building was erected as the Imperial Post Office in 1894 - 1896.

The inauguration took place on October 1st, 1896. At that time, the offices were on the ground floor and the post manager's apartment on the upper floor.

In 1899 the telephone exchange was set up on the upper floor. In 1925, a new telegraph office was built as an extension on Karl-Marx-Straße. In 2000 the building closed its doors to the public because a post office was opened on Bäckerstraße.

In 1987 the post office was honored on a postage stamp from Deutsche Post.
