In the years 1914 - 1915, heavy fighting between Russian and Prussian troops took place in eastern Prussia. All they left behind were war cemeteries. The Germans buried the dead of both armies together. A total of 167 soldiers were buried at the cemetery in Dubeninki, including 52 German and 115 Russian.
