The foundations of the Altenmünster Monastery are part of the World Heritage "Lorsch Abbey and Altenmünster". Unfortunately, not much is to be seen.

The Altenmünster is only a ruin. It was the original monastery (or entrance monastery) on the Weschnitz, founded by the gauges Cancor and his mother Williswind. In 764 it was handed over to Archbishop Chrodegang of Metz. Due to the rapid importance of the monastery took place a few years later, the move to the location of the monastery Lorsch.

I was a bit disappointed at the beginning because I had imagined more as a World Heritage Site. But there is not much to see other than the elevation and foundations. Hard to imagine what the monastery must have looked like.
