Vor Frue Kirke is the main church of the Evangelical Lutheran congregation Vor Frue sogn in Aarhus. In the mid-13th century, Dominicans settled in Aarhus. They took over the former cathedral of St. Nicolai and converted it into a monastery. The present north wall of the nave is the oldest part of the building. It was built from the travertine of the previous building. Around 1250 the choir was expanded in Romanesque style, the nave was built in Gothic style around 1350, the aisle around 1450 and the tower around 1500.With the Reformation, the monastery fell to the crown. The church became an evangelical parish church, and the monastery buildings were built on the orders of King Christian III. used as a hospital and almshouse. This use lasted until the 1930s. A comprehensive restoration took place in the 1950s. They came across the forgotten crypt from around 1060.

The Church of Our Lady in Aarhus is very beautiful, in Romanesque and Gothic style. Unfortunately it was closed and we could only look at it from the outside.

The entrance to the crypt is not easy to find inside the church, so venture into the basement.
