The landmark visible in Dortmund district Hörde was part of the industrial facilities of the Phoenix West
and was used to store coke oven and blast furnace gas. The 76.5 meter high gasometer has a diameter of 49 meters and has a capacity of 120,000 m³. After the final decommissioning of the blast furnace facilities, the industrial area was demolished. The gasometer has been preserved and has been in the list of monuments of the city of Dortmund since March 2002 with the other facilities of the former Phoenix-West plant. There are plans to build a climbing paradise inside the Gasometer.
