The Matthew's Church in Bockwa near Zwickau, a neo-Gothic building, was built between 1853 and 1856. With its filigree exterior made of natural stone, it was considered Saxony's most beautiful church at the time. But when hard coal mining caused severe subsidence, immense damage occurred; The church sank 9.80 meters into the depths. A thorough renovation began in 1992, and in 2002 the church received the largest photovoltaic system on church roofs in Germany.
